Sizing a suction accumulator starts with matching its internal volume to the system's refrigerant charge and the worst-case liquid slug volume, not simply copying the suction line diameter. For 40XX series units, confirm the U-tube inlet orientation, inlet and outlet connection sizes, and whether a metering orifice or oil return hole is required so compressor oil circulates back under part-load conditions. Verify the working pressure rating against your high-side test pressure, and check that the shell and copper fittings suit the refrigerant and oil in use, including R32, R410A, R134a and POE oils.
